PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION: This Confederate M1840 Mounted Artillery Saber is in fair condition showing some age and wear. The ricasso is stamped T.G. & Co. N.O. which stands for the firm of Thomas Griswold Company of New Orleans. The blade has grey patina and one nick about 7 inches from the tip. The handle still has the wire wrap but most off the leather is gone. There are no leather spacers so the brass guard is a little loose. The entire scabbard is made of brass and has a few dings and dents. There is a the letter M or W tapped into the scabbard between the suspension bands. Nice confederate saber with scarce maker.
